If you think the Chinese government's death penalty for heroin smugglers is excessive, then don't be fool enough to smuggle heroin into that country. The colour, or issuing authority of your passport is not a relevant issue here.
China has to take a hard stance against heroin smuggling. They don't have much of a choice. Remember China's opium war past. That country can ill afford to end up with millions of junkies again today.
the actions taken against their citizens. i remember when i went to Thailand. the death penalty for drug smuggling was plastered everywhere. i think it fair for a country to ask questions as to the treatment of prisoners (its citizens)and try and make sure there's no mistreatment of them.
