In the opening 2 verses lines 1 and 2 concern the old man, lines 3 and 4 the child - or so I read it. In the 3rd verse the order is reversed. No big deal, just wondered why.
While I'm here, I noticed
there on the pavement danced a circle,
ring of brightness, dancing fun.
danced/dancing - a bit unimaginative?

Before criticising a person try walking a mile in their shoes. Then when you do criticise that person, you are a mile away.... and you have their shoes.
