1. Collaborative Poetry - I have never really tried collaborative poetry and I figure it is something I would be terrible at but here is the thought - A poet creates a thread "Looking for partner", someone sees it and volunteers, the 2 start a new thread and work through the collaborative process publicly, for all to see and comment on. At the end of it, they produce (hopefully) a viable poem that is then workshopped as a joint project.
Quote:2. Mentoring - this one is intriguing and really demands an abandonment of ego, but is very popular there. The idea is that 1 poet wants a mentor to - 1 on 1 - guide him through the revision process of a single poem, but, once again, publicly so everyone can learn from the process. The poet posts a single thread in the looking for mentor area and someone volunteers to work on the poem with them. Usually, to be a mentor, the poet must have demonstrated a certain skill in the critical and workshopping process. Usually to apply, a poet must have a minimum number of posts. At this point, the mentor starts work shopping the poem, one on one, with the LFM. After several intensive and public sessions, the mentor announces whether he feels the poem is complete or he completely gives up. If it is the former, the poem is then posted to the serious forum for the final phase.i love the idea of this but think it might be harder to do than one would think. in many cases it would be the blind leading the blinder
. i'd love to take part but i know i'm not skilful enough nor do i have enough free time. but again, it wouldn't be hard to set up using pm or the renamed NaPM April 28 forum. Quote:3. Anonymous writing - I just added this one so it isn't included in my original discussion. The idea is, some posters may feel that discussion of their work never reaches the level it could because of the various personalities involved. In an anonymous forum, the posts are posted by a moderator but the writer is unidentified until the writer feels discussion has reached the level they hoped to achieve at which point the thread is closed and the owner is announced.
i'm partially with todd on this one, i could (9 times out of ten) spot a poem written by you or leanne or todd or tom (to name a few) unless it were dumbed down, and that would defeat the object of what was trying to be achieved, another problem is the mods, and admin, 7 people would actually know who wrote the poem by their ip addresses. and while we may seem to be goody goodies we're not, we'd be influenced by those who don't give feedback or who give crap feedback etc. and rightly so. even if you create an environment where only those who give good feedback can take part we'd still have our own bias towards certain peoples.
lastly. most of all it depends on the member. i'd say no to the anon thought. i want to know who i'm giving feedback to, i want to see if they're improving or not, i don't want to give feedback to someone i see as wasting my time etc. as in posting the minimum feedback they can get away with. and lastly lastly....moderation. we got more mods because the work load seems to have exponentially increased over the last 12 months or so. i'm not sure all these extra activities that would need moderating would be fair on them or the site.
so my suggestion would be this: give me money.....no seriously ...give me money....seriously. it would be;
try one of them first, if it gets up and working reasonably well and doesn't add too much to the moderators workload, then try a 2nd one of the thoughts you put forward..
At this point, I am looking for COMMENTS on these 2 ideas.
