when i used to do coke, i'd scribble stuff down; a few lines of poetry or a quote, and think at the time how fucking awesome it was. a couple of days later i'd find a piece of paper in my pocket with gibberish all over it 
many poets took mind bending drugs and seem to have written some good poetry.
maybe we just write shit poetry in general....that's no reason to give up though
