I doubt if you'd save money by building a clone.Haveing onboard audio is really not a draw back VF, takes little to no resourses especially when a sound card is installed. The major draw backs are the PCB the board construction/date of manufacture and the caps. Most of the time these are substandard. No arguement with not building a clone from this builder, what would be the point? Fact is they have to make money so useing out of date low end hardware is how they do this.
The only problem I see with the cheap name brand boxes, is that they all seem to have on-board video on the motherboard. I don't really like that, as I prefer having a dedicated video card.
Other than that, you ought to get a machine with dual core or better CPU, minimum 2 GB RAM, and minimum 250 GB hard drive.
DVD burner capable of burning dual layer discs is a must have.
A builder can buy high end hardware from last years stock and assemble for the same kind of money. Or current middle of the road to high end for a few to the sky is the limit dollars. The choice is yours with a custom rig. Warrenty sirvace normally is just around the corner not around the world for the most part. Unless you build yourself, sirvace guy is always on call, lol !
