A Conversation With Child Protective Services
The shingles are gingerbread
with piped daydream icing.
What obesity? Children
aren't little succulent pigs
with fat dripping off the roasting spit.
They are underfed birds pecking crumbs
along these dark paths.
Would I begrudge them
a gummy doorknob, a fondant eve?
If you insist, I will install an oven
to offer nutritious meals.
