what is the point of writing poetry?

For me the point of writing peotry should be because you enjoy it, if acceptance and recognition of what you write is important then you should write for a target audience, if you only write for yourself then poetry is about self worth and personal ability and creativity. Most people write, wanting recognition and miss their audience, in my opinion
