i don't know enough about aus politics to know who's who apart from the prime minister. so it's hard for me to comment on that side of things.
i can see the snse in using a place to house illegal immigrants till they get asylum and whether it's off shore or mainland doesn't make a lot of difference from a moral standpoint. not sure of any economic costs but i'm presuming they'll be a large financial gain to it being off shore. i think it all boils down to how humanely they're treated. politics and politicians are dirty, thats a fact proven since time immemorial.
