I think it's worth the risk. Let's face it, poetry is hardly popular, the chances of it getting copyrighted are pretty slim compared to photographs or paintings

It doesn't need to get copyrighted -- in almost every country in the world, copyright exists THE MINUTE YOU WRITE IT AND DISPLAY IT TO JUST ONE PERSON. Copying it thereafter without permission of the author is illegal -- most of us don't worry too much as long as we're acknowledged as the origin, but I'd be royally pissed off if one of my poems turned up under someone else's name. For that reason, I make sure everything of mine is kept on my computer and backed up before dissemination so that I have date stamps, should I ever need to prove ownership.

People can and do make money out of poetry -- just not poets, usually
