This is a real thing, apparently. According to a report featured in Psychology Today, too much internet porn can make you impotent.
Apparently excessive viewing of internet porn is desensitizing many young people to the point that normal sexual encounters are no longer enough to arouse them. The result is that many young men in their prime (aged 20's) are now suffering from impotence, normally a problem of much older men. Sooo... the internet might well have caused a generation of sexually dysfunctional people?
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

It is perfectly believable. Once they have somehow contrived to stick with it, and overcome the overwhelming impulse to laugh, what is happening is, to use suitable language, arse about face. In the whole of mankind's development, or at least over the past few hundred years, in the west, from puberty onwards, the prospect of getting anywhere near all The Forbidden Covered Places, or even of touching, was all fantasy, until, one day, in some way, the young male managed to 'steal a kiss' or sneak a hand somewhere. Bang! Now, from puberty on, there is no barrier to staring for hours on lap-tops or mobile-phones, and women doing the strangest things, and in gynaecological detail......so, presented with the real thing, it must be rather a let-down, and great pressure on the girls to 'perform'. Still, I can'ty help think these guys are a bit wimpish....

I fail to see this as a problem though... what self respecting girl would want to deal with someone who was obsessed with wanking by USB? I am slightly biased though, as my ex-husband had several hard drives full of illicit materials, some hidden-camera-in-high-school-change-room type stuff that once discovered was quite the catalyst for divorce. My suggestion is, anyone with these issues should be put in a lovely high-tech room surrounded by other spunk junkies and left alone to wither happily while the rest of the world gets on with the business of doing the business.

I see where desensitizing yourself might cause an issue, but I have to say I'm a big fan of porn. I'm not embarrassed by it, nor am I obsessed by it. My point? I think there is a fine line between some guy who never gets laid and jacks off onto his laptop keyboard three times a day who finally gets a girl naked but gets stage fright and porn being dangerous for a normal male with a healthy sex life. What are they saying? 'Don't jerk off or you'll go blind!' with a much harsher consequence?
On the other hand porn addiction is very real. A good friend of mine (who was the Assistant Chief of Police in a small town) watched his marriage of seventeen years dissolve after he was fired for downloading over seven terabytes of porn on a state owned internet connection. His excuse: He loves porn.

There's nothing inherently wrong with porn (so long as the people being filmed are aware there's a camera there), but there's definitely something wrong with choosing porn over real flesh. And trust me, there's something wrong with a man who suggests that his wife thinks about a labioplasty...

Thirded... wtf D:
Yeah, porn in moderation is fine, just don't fool yourself into thinking that that's what real sex and real women should be like all the time. Otherwise a woman who doesn't look or act like a porn star is not gonna do it for you (which was what happened to those poor saps). I don't think the article was trying to scare people off masturbation... just that if someone's sexual triggers become too fantastical then they'll have unrealistic expectations that will cause performance problems in the bedroom

Oh I definitely agree with that. As a matter of fact, movies and TV can cause unrealistic expectations. I can't be considered a porn addict, I never make it past the opening credits and I'm through.

yes that's part of the problem here, young guys watching porn, without ever had a girlfriend, than getting arranged married and thinking that what they saw is the norm

Not every girl wants to feel like a slut. Especially not their first time. Some of these young girls feel incredible pressure to be sexually adept and fearless. I think porn is one of the main causes. Sometimes I hear people talk about porn like it's only males that are exposed to it. A lot of the women I know were watching porn at parties just like the guys. We would be laughing at the most explicit scenes like it was nothing. In our heads though, we were forming an impression about sex that it would take years of experience to fully understand its naivety. There is a time and a place for porn, but when it becomes a model for teens or a replacement for human contact, then it's bound to have consequences.

A very good point, Mark. I forgot where I saw it, but there was an expose some years back about teenagers, how the boys felt entitled to demand oral sex and the girls felt obligated to comply, to please them, whether or not they got any pleasure or satisfaction from it. They thought it was natural. Now that you mention it, there's a good chance that exposure to unrealistic standards, including those from porn, might have influenced such behavior

not to mention the fact that young boys are totally frustrated because they think 2 meter dicks are the norm

Yeesh. Peformance anxiety about their dicks, and they haven't even gotten to third base in real life yet

Great points guys. The pressure on young men is maxed out too, you guys are right. And sj, the John Holmes syndrome is enough to make anyone insecure. I think it's sad that our world is so bent towards excess. In moderation the stimulation is a great spice, but people in general (and in America especially) go overboard with everything.
