you know - bringing up Mercedes makes me remember
she promised - on multiple occasions - right here on this board
that if I ever came to NZ she would buy me a beer.

My question - do i have legal standing?

also - and on an unrelated matter -
I frequently watch the bots
how they haunt the who's online
forum. What will they pick? What draws them?

I work hard to write a poem
worthy to draw the attention
of the bots inhabiting the who's online forum?

Occasionally they will pick something
something I wrote long ago - infused
with the energy of the young

Are they drawn to the vibrancy of my youth
back when I would write lines like -
"We salute you our AI master -

Please conquer our world a little bit faster"
- and today - and for no reason at all -
they are drawn to the drafts

second draft of a poem in the novice forum
third draft of a poem about electric sheep
it makes me wonder - and at this point

I bet you wonder too - if I did make it to NZ
now - with mercedes long gone - and the executor
of her estate did the right thing

and took me to some swarthy NZ bar
and bought me a round - or - first shout
do you think they would get me second draft?

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

My current favorite from just mercedes from the Sestina practice threads, attention all those who think forms are hooey.

I live alone, in the bush, just below
McInally mountain, part of the high
alpine range. Canberra’s lights reflect
from clouds to the north, their shine
reduced by distance to a glow. My river
joins the Murrumbidgee, becomes their water.

I generate power, pump my own water,
collect firewood for free, fish in the pools below.
I watch from my bed, look down on the river
for food, like a kingfisher perching on high
but I can’t fly like him, a fast arrow shine
of blue. I am lonely, blue too, I reflect.

As I finish work I hear loud music, reflect
on loneliness, decide a bourbon and water
before driving home might put a shine
on my day. I stand at the bar chatting; below
on the dance floor dancers gyrate, high
on energy, moving like a flooded river.

It’s been raining. I wonder if I’ll cross the river
tonight. If I can’t see the white rock reflect
in the crossing, the river is running too high
for me. I’ve already lost a car to the water
this year. The rock shows the safe level below.
I won’t cross if I can’t see it shine.

In the bar’s darkness, teeth and eyes shine.
I meet a man with dark hair like a river
that flows down his back. He gestures below
to the dancers. His welcoming eyes reflect
my smile. He leads, I follow like water
this stranger. I want him. I want to get high

on music, dancing, getting to know him, high
on life again. I laugh, and watch his eyes shine
like ripples of moonlight playing on water.
Something’s starting. As raindrops join in a river
we’re moving together. Our shadows reflect
only one. We’re joined above and below.

We stand high on a cliff overlooking a river
through new land. Stars shine around us, reflect
new patterns emerging in the water below.

Also, have you ever heard of a double sestina?

No, I haven't, have you? It would have to be really good to stretch my attention span.

so, yes, I have heard of a double sestina and years ago an old friend of mine (who I have not heard from forever) wrote a triple sestina.

It was both one of the best and worst things I have ever read.  Massive in scale, scope, allusion, reference.  It seems an impossible thing to accomplish for mere mortals

While my first thought was Why would you? Then I figured someone who recently wrote an acrostic sonnet should shut her mouth.

I should post is somewhere - poems you love I suppose.  It is a thing of majesty. Everyone in the world should read it.

I don't want it to get lost in that massive thread though. I had forgotten about it until now. Went and checked an old email account from long ago and - sure enough - there it is along with my editing notes. i have trimmed all of those out that I could find.

it is - btw - 6 stanzas of 36 lines apiece with repeating endwords and a final 6 line envoi

Good morning! I got a longer sleep than normal and am only on my first cup. I feel energized but not enough to want to go out into the ice and snow. The great benefit of getting old is I don't have to, what a luxury. So I'll be around, might even write a poem, who knows? Hope you all have a good one.

plenty of time to read through a triple sestina I would think.  What a pleasure.  What a luxurious pleasure.
