Last day of the week we got this
Last dog of the day here we go
Cant think of anything I missed
I dont believe they'd let me know
Or if they'd even notice though
As if its not just me who's tired
Ill know for sure when im rehired
Months will go by ill have to wait
Cause they won't tell me ive been fired
Running my own business is great

Smells Like Bengay
It happened in Produce
and he'd been dead for thirty years.
He wouldn’t have survived hearing himself
piped over store speakers
while his fans used carts
to support their steps.
I was bagging serranos,
once more young,
stupid, and contagious.
But there wasn’t enough Viagra
to worry about my libido,
or whatever he’s saying.
The secret of poetry is cruelty.--Jon Anderson

Nice!!
Tomorrow I leave another job.
Ty Cobb
had only one job
but I’ve had plenty.
I’m not at all senti-
mental about this job
or the particular mob
I worked with. Very Arthur Denty,
I live on the shores of a Dalek sea.*
remembering my mother,
my father and brother
not from this, but another
far galaxy.
* while Arthur Dent is not Dr Who, Douglas Adams nevertheless was Script editor on the TV series

“Orange Man Bad” (dizain)
I did not know his name the month before,
but pictures of dogs and frogs caught my eye.
They said he’d build a wall, start a dozen wars;
I shared a meme and earnt my first reply,
Soon I browsed hashtags hoping to espy
fellow memesters, looking to join their tribe.
He looked like cheddar, with an absurd vibe,
but yelling made me feel like I was part
of history herself as she unfolds;
No clue who lost, but damn, I loved the art!

Milliarium Aureum
All roads led to Rome, and each
bore, each thousand paces, stones
carved with distance to next town
or, as often, back to Rome.
In the Forum, close beside
Saturn’s temple, glorified,
stood a golden milestone from
which all measurements began.*
Now it’s gone, a mystery:
who would want a gleaming gold
monument tall as a man?
Only a barbarian.
As with man’s life, so with Rome:
each year earns its marking stone
with the last set at his head
carved with dates alive and dead.

stairbound
To get up the stairs,
These wheels won't let --
It be.
Not trying each day,
No progress
No relapse -
held back by wheels,
I crawl.
Hands aching -
Chairs passing by.
Walls chanting my name.
Never was I in it
For fame.
After hours
Of regret,
The final goal
Is met.
I know that rhyme, rhythm, and meter are not academically standardized.
I am well aware of that, yet I primarily do free verse, and it's based on instinctual writing.
I try to avoid academic language or structure. My poems are not meant to convey a single answer.
I try to convey the unknown through minimalism, mostly dense short stanzas with many line breaks.
If you'd give a critique, please keep this in mind.

Early Retirement
I walk down the cinema isle
my silhouette gated and stooped,
the audience of past colleagues
sit silent under art deco curves.
Unaccustomed as I am
I leave the public speaking
in the safe hands of couplets
and killer end rhymes.
The silent arches chuckle
in all the right places,
some included,
some left behind by design.
Its a short film,
black and white
hammers on anvil's
the splash of hot steel.
Too many time lapsed buildings
rattle up out of the ground
seasons slipping snow
between the jerk of fixed cranes
The outro colours a couple
into a corn field, high as our waists,
the sun pulling on our shadows
tall an thin, gated and stooped.
No one waits to read the credits
coffee and cake calls out
from a hired, tired hall
and just like that, with hand shakes and hugs
I retire.
If your undies fer you've been smoking through em, don't peg em out
