It's cheap and keeps me alive
this burger from the local dive.
Most people ruminate
being here on their first date.
Others talk about towns history
and home turf pride.
Patches sewed on cementing
memories on cow hide.
Football games, and old drama too.
It's no wonder why I moved.
I'm back here again because,
it's cheap and keeps me alive.
Only one thing is impossible for God: To find any sense in any copyright law on the planet.

I picked the patty off the floor
No time to go digging for more
The tiles not bad,
maybe a tad
I'd cleaned it moments before
I'd cleaned it moments before
I'll be sure to cook it to the core
The heat that fries
Will sanitize
This job is a bore, on top of the chores
This job is a bore, on top of the chores
I don't care how my performance scores
Give me my pay
And call it a day
I'm ready to burn down this store
I picked the patty off the floor
I'd cleaned it just moments before
This job is a bore
On top of the chores
I'm ready to burn down this store
Peanut butter honey banana sandwiches

fifty years later
can't believe
I'm still alive
after jags of zero
nutrional value
coke and smokes
more coke and beer
yet goddamn it
I'm still here
and haven't
gained a pound
or made more sense
of this world

Fast Food
After the chase, most big cats take their time
draining the life out of their prey
by choking them or bleeding them to death
instead of thrashing them about, breaking their necks
or dashing their heads against rocks,
as crocs are wont to do. They know that meat
flush with blood will never taste as sweet
as when their catch is given the chance to treat
the inevitable with peace.
The raising or hunting may be quick,
so too the skinning, the cleaning, the cooking,
even, as need so dictates, the eating,
but if a people takes not their time
in slaughtering what will soon grace their table,
if they've no distaste for the savour of dread,
then they are worse than a beast.

Old Number Six
Some diners say, “The usual”
while others favor
blue plate specials.
Mine is Number Six:
one crispy taco
two chicken soft Chalupas
Supreme
giant Dr Pepper
with my sauces three:
mild
Fire
and DIABLO.
Such friendly people there
at my local Taco Bell
looking like young
well-fed Mennonites
with the little beards and
mild chubby greetings.
This meal’s utterly
reliable, fresh,
steady as a heartb

@Bunx - Nice little ambiguity at "why I moved... back here again." Moved because of team spirit and all, or came back because of them. Or the cheap edibles? Nice.
@CRNDLSM - The remarkable thing about fast food in general is that so few of the burger flippers/french fry drowners/taco loaders etc. seem to actually hate the work (this much). I guess assembly jobs are all like that, only the FF and burger flippers get to see people eating their products instead of just driving by in them.
@Mark - Maybe, Bobby Kennedy to the contrary notwithstanding, modern fast food isn't actually poison. A little non-optimum, statistically, at worst.
@RiverNotch - I've read that in some observed situations where a big cat has its prey completely helpless and frozen with terror, it will pet and stroke the prey to calm it down, purring (in an almost inaudibly low register). Apparently carnivores, too, like Happy Meals.
