White Knuckles
There are those pieces
that make the cut every time
when I'm purging
and getting my closet aligned,
not because I like them
or plan to wear them again,
but a favorite they once were.
Like my favorite stuffy,
though old and musty,
they made me feel calm,
confident and great,
and for that simple gift,
I thank them
with real estate.

We laugh at the old cartoons
Always wearing the same clothes
Then i reached my older teens
Found a job and learned to loathe
The uniforms we maintained
Funny how so many goths
Change their ways for corporate tones
And boxes emptied by the moths
Peanut butter honey banana sandwiches

Tamar
The sins of Er and Onan, they were one,
just with discrete motives. Some claim the former spilled his seed
so as the beauty of his wife
would not be spoiled, others because for the beauty of his wife
he was too impatient, others still
because he would have the beauty of his wife
become his own -- it was through him
she learned to paint her face -- whereas the latter
was more pragmatic: he simply wanted
a child he could call entirely his own. So she put off
the garments of her widowhood, plucked bare
her brows and taped them back, applied
a heavy layer of foundation, lined
and coloured her eyes and lips, sculpted her cheeks
with shadow, her nose with highlights, fixed
the mess with finishing spray, put on
a veil made up of last year's hair, and went to town
a different woman. From this, she won
her favourite accessories -- an iron ring plated
silver, a copper coil plated gold
for her arm, for her whole person
a plastic scepter Swarovski studded,
and a pair of twins -- in other words,
the security of being called
the mother of her house
while turning green with shame before a court
of his own peers her twice father-in-law
turned groom.

My Black Barometer
I really like my black
buffalo-hide belt
that I wear each day.
The buckle is replaceable
currently a pewter bas-relief
from a museum
I’ve never visited.
The main thing, though
(aside from holding up my pants)
is its regularly spaced
attachment holes because
while the bathroom scale
like a thermometer
tells present status of my body
in small increments
my belt like a barometer
tells in broad trends
by how tight or loose
if that precisely measured weight
is muscle (or, as usual, is fat).

Grippy sock vacation
is a phrase that puts
a cute tinge to
hell on earth.
Admittance that you can't.
Allowance that they can.
Crying tears daily that
bring you down to tile.
Wear these socks for awhile.
If you want to stay in class
they could let you wear a hat.
I just want my shoes back.

Hey Bunx,
Would love to see you put this in a critique forum for some minor tweaks. Very powerful piece. Grippy sock vacation, amazing!
