Natural Disaster (A Plague of Trolls)

A wise man said, though smiling as he wrote,
majestic law forbids both rich and poor
to sleep beneath a bridge.  He did not say
in proto-socialism why that law
should be.

Now lately law, discarding majesty,
permits the poor, deranged and drugged to sleep
and live beneath its vital viaducts
where quantities of flammables are stored
for rent.

Not once but twice so far, foreseeably,
a major bridge has fallen, torched, collapsed
from arson by the trolls whom absent law
has fostered.  What could be more natural
than that?

Why are all the prompts so political this year?  Wink

While I try to keep November prompts as generic as I can, poets tend to think metaphorically and make connections based on their unique perspectives and experiences, many of which I could never imagine. I think the poems this month may be more political than usual, but the prompts are what they are. Just cigars and nothing more.

Made it in time
No feeling like realizing you've
Made it in time
How do I describe the sublime
Not how it's portrayed in a movie
I can't show what it means to've
Made it in time

Super lucky
Winning a jackpot every day
Super lucky
Doesn't mean to be a schmuck, he
Always gets green lights the whole way
Replaced his bowl with a bidet
Super lucky
Peanut butter honey banana sandwiches

I hope it was deviously obvious that I'm annoyed with my own perversion of your perfectly good prompts, not the prompts themselves!

No disaster is entirely
unnatural. Physics bends the bridge,
chemistry snaps the steel, and biology
led the engineer to cut
corners in the first place. Likewise,

all disasters have some man or woman
play their part. A comet
strikes another, a cyclone whirls
where no ship sails, a new volcano spits
in the middle of Siberia: who but fools

would cower at these signs? Such distinctions
are the only truly artificial
thing about disasters, like the poet
willy-nilly breaking lines---

Where, then, is the sting of death,
the logic backing fear?

Nothing to See Here

the rogue waves are back;
out for my equilibrium,
out for my mind

the waters are glass
for more than some

I'm shushed

and fined.
