This Leviticus

I’m leaving this Leviticus behind.
No, I’m not blind. My eyes are telling me
this cannot be. The way we were designed

we’re coaxed and cajoled by a second mind
but all of that’s on them and not on me—
I’m leaving this Leviticus behind.

I’ve drawn up my own covenant and find
no compromise that makes me want to scream
‘this cannot be the way we were designed.’

If sin can only exist in the mind
perish the thought that would put it on me—
I’m leaving this Leviticus behind.

And maybe for them a different light shined
and served for a time before they could see
this cannot be the way we were designed.

But I have my papers, current and signed,
showing just where, and to what I agree.
I’m leaving this Leviticus behind—
this cannot be the way we were designed.
