NaPM 2017, Please Read This
#1
Milo has hosted the PigPen's NaPM event for the first four years. I will attempt to carry on the tradition this month giving Milo a much deserved rest from his hosting duties. Participate as much as you like or as little as you like. The idea is not to create a perfect poem but to get creatively unleashed. During the month or later throughout the year you may choose to workshop some of the poems you started here--I know I have. This is a time for ideas and fun. Stretch yourself and see if you can create something on each day.

I will be traveling some during April but I promise to get all the prompts up--hotel WiFi willing. If there are prompts you would like to suggest for consideration please PM me privately.

I leave you with Milo's first send off from 2013 (because why not steal I have enough work in front of me without stealing from Milo Smile) .

We'll begin in a few weeks on April 1.

Best,

Todd

Quote:April is NaPM in the states (probably the month of searching for clean drinking water and dreaming about electricity where you are from). In honor of this we are running a NaPM event. The rules are simple, we try to write a poem for each day of April. To enable the process, a topic will be posted daily in a thread with the date in this forum.

FAQ:

I wasn't here for the beginning can I still participate?
Yes, jump in at any time. If you feel up to it, go back to the earlier threads and see if you can write a poem for those days as well, but it is ok to start whenever you wish.

I don't want to write a poem for every day, but I would like to participate in some of the topics, is this ok? Yes, feel free to participate in any of the topics. Ideally, if you can produce a poem for each day that is best, but not required.

I missed a day, can I go back and make it up? Yes, the threads are left open and unlocked.

I am a newer writer will the quality of my writing be up to par? NaPM is "crit-free", more a celebration of poetry than anything and all are welcome. Poems should still be edited and you should try to produce work to the best quality of your skill level.

What is up with these topics? Can't I just write about flowers and birds? Topics sometimes push people out of their comfort zones, inspire new ideas or get people to look at poetry in a different way. Feel free to write about whatever you wish.

I read something I like, is it still ok to comment? Yes, it can be trying to write a poem a day everyday and many suffer from "writer's fatigue" around day ten. A little encouragement goes a long way.

Go on, jump right in there and have some fun!!

Yay, and thank you God Todd. I hope you don't think the work is done after the prompt is posted cause I love reading your new work. Maybe now that milo's off the hook we'll see a poem or two from him.

Just the thought of reading all the interesting new work makes me think I might be able to write a poem. Smile

New members are welcome to participate so if you have friends you'd like to suggest participation to this is the time.

Hope you all take part in some way, good luck. Smile

That's a great idea - I've been slack there, lately.

I'll try to do a crit a day too.

Who all is planning to participate this year? Other than me, of course.

Idea I think we should all publicly state our commitment and make a pact in blood. Just cut a little from your hand and wipe it on the screen.

But, seriously, so many key members have been silent lately. Sad Sad Let's poke them with sticks....

As a prelude, I found this quick refresher on simile and metaphor to be helpful:

Some of your poems from last year were highlights of NaPM for me--so, I'll take what I can get. Glad to see you back!

That's very nice of you to say, Todd.  I was mostly intimidated by all of the marvels I read here.

Last year Milo's prompts got posted about the time I usually go to bed.  While that seemed a bit annoying to start with, I grew fond of the timing as it gave my subconscious something to process during sleep time.  Do you intend a regular posting time for your prompts this year?  Just asking.
