Pretty much anything will work after editing it many times.
The only exception to the above would be editing;
editing does not work no matter how many times you edit it.

Exactly ray, which addresses a point that I meant to come back to make before I jumped aboard your 'runaway train' in the other forum, ha, ha. I know some poets and authors that refuse to write in an altered state, whether it is chemical induced, an exicited emotional state or a heightened mental period (eg depression). Some say, it won't be good or it will be wierd and disturbing. I reply, and what's the problem with that, because you may capture something unobtainable, not available to you after the fact or in your 'normal' phase.

A little crazy, ADHD etc, can bring a very different perspective to poetry and the way lines are viewed by the poet and the reader. I have seen a change in your poetry Bunx and put it down to you improving from using the site not drugs Smile that doesn't mean I think your older stuff is poor, far from it, it's just different and I always enjoy reading it, I just never know how to comment or crit your stuff. I wouldn't delete anything you haven't saved somewhere else.

Every time I write something I think it's bloody brilliant until I read it the next day and see the errors, problem is I've usually posted it by then Sad best TOMH

If your undies fer you've been smoking through em, don't peg em out

TOMH thanks for the comment!! Ya i feel as if my poems are pretty hard to crit because what i am going for is not usually clear. What is usually more clear is the awful editing process haha. I am trying to write ore structured things to make may poems seem more straight forward.

I write in any and all conditions because (like mentioned) you can get some
wonderful stuff you'd never get any other way. When writing first drafts I
write as much and as many as I feel like and I'm careful to not delete anything
even if I think it's crap. Creativity works best when not bothered by doubt.

The judgement comes later when I'm editing. Adopting this method does
tend to produce A LOT of crap and pieces that are too long. Good. Editing
works best when you've got LOTS to delete. Besides, it happens quite often
that the worst crap has this one good line in it. I clip it and throw it
in a bone pile and use it straight or for generating ideas at a later
date (sometimes years if you happen to loose one of those files).
Always (almost) fun to see what you were thinking a zillion years ago... Smile

All states of mind and body should be in play when it comes to creativity. I completely agree with your methods and madness. I have more pages of quips than ones with full poems.

hi bunx,

like everything, poetry or writing good poetry is a learning process.
i doubt any of us would get a job changing tyres in formula one racing. i'm pretty good with my hands, i've been told i'm a natural when it comes to building stuff or repairing stuff, and i agree, i am, but whenever i built or repaired something the first thing i did was get the books out, or do a mock up (partial build) if i was doing figurine repairs i did trials on cheap ornaments to test setting times and firing points. if i made a piece of jewellery i used lead instead of gold for the first few mouldings.
never be pissed off with feedback always be grateful. this goes for crazies as well as non crazies Thumbsup

i think that's the secret, look on the first creation as a draft and edit till you have what you want. the more you write in the draft the more you'll have to work with on an edit.

billy- i am coming to agree. like changing a tire i find that some of the poems i once liked cause me the most headache. some things (mostly in a sobered state) seemed quite forced, and lack poetic elements (like minimalism). I think only time and practice will make me write better on average. till then ill look forward to writing those couple of poems that seem to tickle folk's fancy.

Are crazy folk better at poetry?

I dunno. Maybe you should give it at try. Cut yourself a few times then attempt suicide, and then write about. Of course if you're intending to survive to write about then it's not a real attempt, so good luck!

On that note, maybe crazy people write the best verse after they have suicided? Huh

Sadly, I am in perfect mental health which is why I can't plumb the anguish like all the nutters you find on poetry sites so it wouldn't do any good.

In the list of statements made by mentally ill people,
number one is:
"I'm not crazy."
Number two is:
"I am in perfect mental health."
