First Love.
#1
I can still trace the contours of your face
in the lines of my palms.
I wake in tears after dreaming of your embrace.
We built our castle on the sand.

I long for you to open up your gates to me
just like you did before.
The year slips by so carelessly,
but still my love endures.

Was there anything tangible
between us at all?
I watch your mouth form words but all i hear is
a dove's call, an ocean's lull
into which I fall.

I shield my eyes from the glaring sky;
by love your face is lit.
(A memory of when your heart was solely mine;
I think I'd like to drown in it)

Everyday I acquiesce to the catechism of heartbreak,
the haunting image of your eyes; your hands around my waist.
I'd sell you my soul, write a thousand love songs
just to return to those days.
I can keep popping my pills, pretend the sickness is gone -
just lift me in your arms again
and swear on both of our (short) lives that you mean every single syllable you say.

A library of memories is cataloged in my mind.
Most nights, I select one at random to play from the dense archive
of emotion that developed over the course of "us" as a compound, a unit, an unstable, accidentally formed activated complex.

Remember our one night together,
when you cried because i was in pain
due to drinking a bottle of whiskey straight
and falling asleep in a fetal position on top of you?

Your hands tenderly caressing my hair
as you kissed every inch of my upturned face.
Sixteen and so full of questions,
we were each as innocent as the other.

I miss you, I miss you, I MISS YOU
and the way we were then.
What happened after should never have began,
but I've heard that's how it always ends.

Hey! Love is a thought thing indeed!

I like the desperation you express in your poem. Good!

Just want to make a comment... it looks more prose than poetry to me, and i think is mainly from the chaotic rhythm it has... Maybe you should try to work on it a bit more. But, i am no expert at all in poetry, so... just keep it flowing as you feel it, and listen to comments of more expert poets.

Thank you!
